Alums Fill US National Roster
Seventeen former college hockey players are among the first 20 players named to the 2012 U.S. National Team, USA Hockey has announced.
Note: Updated with additions of Joey Crabb (Colorado College), Chris Butler (Denver) and John Curry (Boston University) to the roster.
The team will compete in the 2012 IIHF World Championship in Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden, May 4-20. Additional players will be added to the roster as their NHL teams are eliminated from the playoffs.
Seven schools – Boston College, Colorado College, Denver, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Minnesota Duluth – have two representatives each on the initial roster. Boston University, St. Cloud State and Western Michigan also have former players selected.
The two former UMD Bulldogs – J.T. Brown and Justin Faulk – were both members of the 2011 national champions. Both were freshmen on that team, with Faulk signing with the Carolina Hurricanes after the season and Brown playing one more year at UMD prior to signing with Tampa Bay.
Former Boston College goaltender Scott Gordon will be the head coach of Team USA.
Former Maine star Teddy Purcell was among the first 17 players named to the Canadian roster.
