U.S. Sets Evaluation Camp Roster
Fourteen current college players and 17 college commitments are among the 46 players invited to take part in USA Hockey’s National Junior Evaluation Camp this August in Lake Placid, N.Y. The players will be auditioning for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will take part in the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship in December and January in Ufa, Russia.
Eighteen colleges will be represented at the camp, nearly one-third of all Division I programs. Notre Dame (four players), Harvard (three) and Minnesota (three) have the most attendees.
U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Phil Housley has been named head coach of the 2012 National Junior Team. He will be assisted by two current college coaches: Ohio State head coach Mark Osiecki and Minnesota assistant coach Grant Potulny.
Incoming Michigan freshman Jacob Trouba – who should be a first-round pick in Friday night’s NHL Entry Draft – is the lone collegian returning from the 2012 U.S. National Junior Team. Other names of note include John Gaudreau of 2012 NCAA champion Boston College and fellow Frozen Four participants Shayne Gostisbehere (Union) and Travis Boyd (Minnesota).
The camp, which will take place at Lake Placid’s Olympic Center from Aug. 4-11, includes practices, intrasquad scrimmages and international games against Sweden and Finland.
