19 Alums Make AHL All-Star Game
Five rookies among the selections for Jan. 27-28 event in Providence.
Amid the changing rosters brought on by the start of the NHL season, Thursday the AHL announced the players who will participate in the 2013 AHL All-Star Classic Jan. 27-28 in Providence, R.I. It’s a group that features 19 former college players, including five rookies who played college hockey a year ago.
Three of those rookies were Denver teammates – Beau Bennett, Drew Shore and Jason Zucker. Defensemen Chad Billins (Ferris State) and Adam Clendening (Boston University) were also named to the All-Star teams in their first pro seasons.
Denver led the 12 schools who had alums named to the All-Star Classic with four selections, as the three aforementioned rookies are joined by their former Pioneer teammate, Matt Donovan. Boston University (Clendening, Chris Bourque), Colorado College (Curtis McElhinney, Brett Sterling), Ferris State (Billins, Zach Redmond) and Michigan (Chad Kolarik, Kevin Porter) all had two alums selected.
The 2013 AHL All-Star Classic includes the skills competition on Sunday, Jan. 27, and the All-Star Game on Monday, Jan. 28. All of the events will be held at Providence’s Dunkin Donuts Center.
UPDATE: Five additional college players have been added to the rosters due to the unavailability of some players. Those additions are reflected below.
