Recruits Fill Hlinka Roster

Ten players committed to eight schools – plus several others who have yet to commit – make up the core of the 2013 U.S. Under-18 Select Team that will compete in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament next month. The group, chosen from the top players at the Select 17 Player Development Camp, will be led by head coach and former Maine star Bob Corkum.

North Dakota has three future players on the roster – Ryan Mantha, Austin Poganski and Nick Schmaltz – making it the only school with more than one commit on the team.

Other schools with recruits on the team: Boston College (Joey Dudek), Massachusetts (Jake Wahlin), Michigan (Kyle Connor), Michigan State (Cody Milan), Notre Dame (Bob Nardella), Wisconsin (Ryan Wagner) and Yale (Joseph Snively).

The Ivan Hlinka Tournament – named after one of the first Czech hockey stars – is held each August for national under-18 teams from around the world. The eight-team event will take place Aug. 5-10 in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia.

Joining Corkum behind the bench is assistant coach Derek Plante, an assistant and former player at Minnesota Duluth.
