Eichel Adds USA Hockey Honor
Recruits also saluted as USA Hockey names annual award winners.
Jack Eichel has added to his already impressive trophy case, earning USA Hockey’s College Player of the Year award to be presented at the organization’s 2015 Annual Congress next month.
Two NCAA commits will also be honored by USA Hockey, with Michigan recruit Kyle Connor earning the Dave Tyler Junior Player of the Year award and Minnesota recruit Eric Schierhorn earning the Dave Peterson Goaltender of the Year award.
USA Hockey Annual Award Winners
Eichel, the BU freshman, adds this honor to his Hobey Baker Award, National Freshman of the Year award and Hockey East Player and Rookie of the Year honors. The top-scoring freshman in NCAA hockey since Paul Kariya in 1992-93, Eichel is the odds-on No. 2 selection in the NHL Draft, to be held June 26 in Sunrise, Fla.
Connor starred for the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL and will be a freshman at Michigan in the fall. He was the league’s scoring champion with 80 points in 56 regular-season games.
Schierhorn, whose brother Brad will be a senior at Dartmouth, led the Muskegon Lumberjacks to the finals of the USHL’s Clark Cup Playoffs. The Anchorage native also played in the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and the World Junior A Challenge. He will attend Minnesota in the fall.
