USA Hockey Names Junior Camp
25 college players among those invited to Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid this August.
Twenty-five players with NCAA hockey ties are among those invited to USA Hockey’s National Junior Evaluation Camp, to be held Aug. 1-8 in Lake Placid, N.Y. The camp serves as an audition for the U.S. National Junior Team that will take part in the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship, Dec. 25 through Jan. 5, in Helsinki, Finland.
Eleven returnees from the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team are among the participants, headlined by Hobey Baker Award winner Jack Eichel of Boston University.
Eichel is one of four BU players attending the camp, which is tied for the lead among all schools with rival Boston College. Twelve schools have at least one representative in attendance; Michigan has three, while Miami, North Dakota, Notre Dame, Providence and Wisconsin have two each.
Former Providence star Ron Wilson is the head coach of the U.S. National Junior Team with Chris Chelios (Wisconsin), Danton Cole (Michigan State) and Kevin Reiter (Alaska Anchorage) serving as assistants. Michigan State assistant coach Kelly Miller and New York Islanders assistant coach and former Lake Superior State star Doug Weight will be guest coaches at the Evaluation Camp.
Players at the camp will stay at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center while all games and practices will be held at Lake Placid Olympic Center’s 1980 Herb Brooks Arena. In addition to pactices two U.S. teams will compete against teams from Finland and Sweden.
