34 Schools on Draft Watch List
Dozens of players at or committed to NCAA schools highlighted by NHL Central Scouting.
Dozens of current and future NCAA players are among those highlighted in NHL Central Scouting’s latest Players to Watch list for the 2016 NHL Draft, released Tuesday.
The list includes 88 players who are attending or have committed to attend Division I schools. Another 34 are playing in NCAA-eligible junior leagues but have not committed to a program.
More than half of all Division I teams – 34 of 60 – have a player or recruit in the rankings. Wisconsin (three current, three recruits), Boston College (one, five) and Boston University (one, five) lead all schools with six representatives each.
Eleven players on the list are currently playing college hockey.
Wisconsin goaltender Matt Jurusik (La Grange, Ill./Janesville-NAHL) is among those who have played their way into consideration for the draft. Not listed on the preseason watch list, Jurusik now has a “C” rating as a fourth-, fifth- or sixth-round candidate. Other NCAA freshmen like Massachusetts’ Callum Fryer (Oakville, Ont./Aurora-OJHL), Denver’s Dylan Gambrell (Bonney Lake, Wash./Dubuque-USHL) and Connecticut’s Joseph Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J./U.S. NTDP) have also climbed into consideration based upon their early-season play.
