Former Stars Meet for AHL’s Calder Cup
Camper, Werenski headline Hershey, Lake Erie as they chase AHL championship.
Hershey leading scorer Carter Campber and Lake Erie rookie star Zach Werenski are among the 15 former NCAA players in the hunt for the AHL’s Calder Cup as the championship series gets underway Wednesday in Hershey.
Camper is one of three former Miami stars in the series, as the RedHawks boast alumni on all four AHL and NHL finalists. Rookie Riley Baber is a teammate of Camper’s in Hershey and the will face Trent Vogelhuber of Lake Erie. Camper has 15 points in 17 games to lead Hershey offensively.
Werenski jumped into Lake Erie’s lineup following Michigan’s season and ranks second among AHL defensemen with 11 points in the plaoffs. He is third on Lake Erie in scoring.
Hershey’s lineup has more of an NCAA flavor than Lake Erie’s, with five of the team’s top eight scorers boasting college experience. AHL MVP Chris Bourque (Boston University) is third on the team in playoff scoring with 10 points.
