11 NCAA alums played for Pittsburgh in Game 1, the most ever for a team in the Stanley Cup Final.

An historic lineup helped fuel Pittsburgh in its 3-2 Game 1 victory against the San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Final.

NCAA Heroes Lead Teams to Cup Final

Not only did NCAA alumni account for all three Pittsburgh goals, but 11 former college players suited up for the Penguins, the most ever for a team in the Stanley Cup Final.

The 1995 New Jersey Devils had 13 former NCAA players’ names etched on the Stanley Cup, but no more than nine played in any Cup Final game. Should the Penguins win the Cup this year, they would have at least 13 alumni get their names on the Cup – the 11 who played Monday plus Kevin Porter and Jeff Zatkoff.
