Nearly 100 Commits in Phase II Draft

Future NCAA stars fill USHL rosters heading into 2016-17 season.

Nearly 100 committed recruits – representing more than three-quarters of all Division I teams – were selected in Phase II of the 2016 USHL Draft on Tuesday, while dozens of uncommitted future NCAA players were also among the 316 players selected.

Coming on the heels of Monday’s Phase I draft, Phase II featured all junior-age players not already on a USHL roster. The vast majority of players selected were born in 1997, ’98 or ’99.

Phase II Draft Results

Forty-eight Division I schools had a total of 93 commits taken in the draft, led by No. 1 selection Matt Hellickson (Notre Dame). Arizona State led all schools with six commits selected in Phase II, with Air Force, Canisius and Providence featuring four each.

The two-day draft featured players selected from 34 states, eight Canadian provinces and 14 countries.

USHL teams carry 45-player rosters into offseason training camps that begin in June.
