Alums Claim Calder Cup
Rookie Werenski among six former NCAA stars who helped Lake Erie capture title.
Six former NCAA stars are among the players who helped lead the Lake Erie Monsters to the Calder Cup, culminating in a four-game sweep of the Hershey Bears Saturday night.
Zach Werenski – a first-team All-American this season as a Michigan sophomore – led all AHL defensemen with 14 points in 17 playoff games.
Werenski was joined by fellow college alumni Trent Vogelhuber (Miami), T.J. Tynan (Notre Dame), Jaime Sifers (Vermont), John Ramage (Wisconsin) and Michael Paliotta (Vermont), who all appeared for Lake Erie in the playoffs.
The AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Lake Erie brought Cleveland its first Calder Cup since 1964. The Monsters won 15 of 17 games in a remarkable playoff run.
