The puck drops Saturday in the World Cup of Hockey, a best-in-the-world event that will feature former college players in every game, with representation on every roster except Russia’s.

The 31 NCAA alumni in the tournament represent 18 schools, led by Michigan (5 players), Minnesota (4), Wisconsin (4) and North Dakota (3).

More than 80% of the United States team played college hockey (19 of 23 participants). Team captain Joe Pavelski and assistant captain Ryan Suter are two of three Wisconsin alumni on the roster. All three goaltenders – Jonathan Quick, Cory Schneider and Ben Bishop – played in Hockey East.

Team North America – comprised of players from Canada and the United States age 23 and under – features several familiar faces from recent NCAA seasons, led by Hobey Baker Award winners Johnny Gaudreau and Jack Eichel. Seven alums are on the roster, including three of the seven defensemen: Shayne Gostisbehere, Colton Parayko and Jacob Trouba.
