Commits Named to Top Prospects Game
USHL event to showcase NHL Draft-eligible prospects committed to 20 different Division I programs.
Twenty Division I schools will have future players showcased in the 2017 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, the league announced Tuesday.
The 40 players selected are all eligible for the 2017 NHL Draft and include 32 players who have already committed to NCAA schools. The event will take place Jan. 10 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
First-round prospects Shane Bowers (Boston University) and Eeli Tolvanen (Boston College) headline the selections. They both have two future college teammates selected as well – BC, BU, Denver and Minnesota Duluth are the four schools with three recruits on the roster.
The selection process for players competing in the game was completed in cooperation with NHL general managers and scouts, NHL Central Scouting and USHL general managers.
“The development path from junior hockey to college hockey to the NHL continues to be validated each and every year,” said Bob Fallen, USHL President and Commissioner. “The USHL has produced 30 or more NHL Draft picks in four consecutive years, something only two other junior leagues in the world can say. The USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game is a celebration for all of the youth organizations and the players they helped develop. Most of these players will go on to have very successful college hockey careers, and a select few will continue that success in the NHL.”
Teams and coaches for the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game will be announced at a later date.
