It was a weekend that Lindenwood junior F Morgan Neitzke won’t soon forget.

As if Friday’s wild 7-7 overtime tie with Syracuse – in which she notched a goal and an assist with eight shots – wasn’t memorable enough, Neitzke and the Lions went about re-writing the program’s record books in Saturday’s series finale, this time a 5-4 overtime victory.

Neitzke scored a first-period go-ahead goal and added a pair of assists, giving her 86 career points and pushing her past Sierra Burt (2017-21) as the school’s all-time scoring leader. Neitzke, a native of Jackson, Mich., emerged from the game with 39 points on the year, also making her the school’s new single-season record-holder for points.

To top it all off, she helped lift Lindenwood to its 11th win of the year, a new single-season high for a relatively young program that only joined the NCAA Division I ranks in 2011-12.

For her efforts, Neitzke captured her third CHA Forward of the Week recognition of the season on Monday.

Neitzke and the Lions will travel to Mercyhurst on Friday and Saturday. Six points separate the second-place Lakers and the fourth-place Lions in the CHA standings.

We Were(n’t) Merely Freshmen:

Twenty-six freshmen recently landed on the Hockey Commissioners Association’s watch list for the 2023-24 Women’s Rookie of the Year Award.

ECAC Hockey led the way with 10 names on the list, followed by the WCHA, which placed seven. The CHA, Hockey East and NEWHA each had three players on the watch list.

The National Rookie of the Year, voted upon by the nation’s assistant coaches, will be announced in March during the NCAA Frozen Four in Durham, N.H. Current Penn State scoring leader Tessa Janecke (So., Orangeville, Ill.) won the award last season.

Dukaric’s Dominance:

Yale junior G Pia Dukaric (Ljubljana, Slovenia) set a school record in Saturday’s 4-0 win at Union when she registered her 17th career shutout. She surpassed the previous standard set by Jackee Snikeris from 2007-11.

The reigning ECAC Goaltender of the Year, Dukaric needed just 72 collegiate appearances to reach her record-breaking shutout, which was also her fourth of the season.

In 23 outings this year, Dukacic is 11-11-1 with a 1.87 goals against average and .910 save percentage.

The Sharks are Circling:

Long Island became the nation’s first team to clinch a conference championship when it defeated Stonehill 2-1 last Saturday to capture a second straight NEWHA regular-season crown. That win was also the 21st of the season for the Sharks, setting a new single-season program record.

LIU added to that win total last night after picking up a 3-1 road victory at Sacred Heart.

“I think it shows a lot about what this school can be to have almost the entire rugby team that’s here on campus to drive two hours to watch, and then be the loudest people in the rink. They made it feel like we were playing in front of a home crowd.”

PWHL Note of the Week:

Ottawa D Savannah Harmon (Clarkson, 2014-18) produced a hat trick and five points last Thursday in Team King’s 5-3 win over Team Kloss during the PWHL 3-on-3 Showcase at the NHL All-Star Weekend in Toronto. Harmon was one of 24 PWHL players representing the league at the event.

A two-year captain at Clarkson, Harmon helped lead the Golden Knights to a national championship in 2016-17 and was a Patty Kazmaier Award finalist the following season.

Fries at the Bottom of the Bag:

UConn is unbeaten in its last 18 Hockey East games (15-0-3) … Ohio State struck for a school-record three short-handed goals in Saturday’s win over Bemidji State. The victory extended the Buckeyes’ winning streak to 11 straight … RPI fifth-year G Amanda Rampado (Stoney Creek, Ontario) eclipsed the 3,000-saves mark for her career in Friday’s 4-1 win over No. 14 Yale, making her the second player in school history to hit that milestone. Rampado followed up with a 26-save shutout of Brown the following day … Brown’s 4-2 victory at Union on Friday gave the Bears their first double-digit win total since the 2006-07 season.
