Freshman Phenom Celebrini Nabs Hobey Baker, Tim Taylor Awards
Wisconsin’s McClellan Takes Home Mike Richter Award
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – For the second consecutive season, the top rookie in NCAA Division I men’s hockey is also the country’s top player.
Boston University freshman forward Macklin Celebrini was named the recipient of both the 2024 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given annually to the best player in NCAA Division I men’s hockey, and the Tim Taylor National Rookie of the Year Award, repeating the feat achieved last year by then-Michigan freshman Adam Fantilli.
Celebrini, who was also named a first-team All-American, appeared in 38 games as a freshman and ranks second in the NCAA in goals (32) and third in both points (64) and points per game (1.68). The Vancouver, British Columbia, native is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in this summer’s NHL Entry Draft.
Additionally, Wisconsin senior Kyle McClellan became the first Badger to win the Mike Richter Award – named in honor of another former Wisconsin goalie – as the nation’s top goaltender. The Manchester, Mo., native, was also named a second-team All-American.
The announcements were televised live on NHL Network on Friday from Xcel Energy Center on the eve of the national championship game. The complete list of individual honorees:
- Hobey Baker Award: Macklin Celebrini, Boston University
- Mike Richter Award: Kyle McClellan, Wisconsin
