NCAA DI Hockey Players Score High Marks in Latest Graduation Report
Both Women’s, Men’s Hockey Rank in Top Five Among All Sports
NCAA Division I women’s and men’s hockey student-athletes continue to grade exceptionally well in the classroom, once again scoring above the national average in the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data released by the NCAA.
Both women’s and men’s hockey ranked among the top five of all sports in this year’s report. Women’s hockey boasted a 97-percent four-year cohort GSR, while men’s hockey achieved a 93-percent rate. Both marks tied for fifth-highest among Division I women’s and men’s sports, respectively.
Additionally, men’s recorded a single-cohort GSR of 93 percent, six points higher than the overall Division I men’s rate:

The report released by the NCAA reflects graduation numbers among student-athletes who entered college in 2017.
Nineteen women’s hockey programs – more than half of the 33 Division I women’s hockey institutions included in the report – recorded a perfect 100-percent GSR: Boston University, Brown, Colgate, Cornell, Harvard, Holy Cross, LIU, Mercyhurst, Merrimack, New Hampshire, Northeastern, Penn State, Princeton, Providence, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, St. Cloud State, Vermont, and Yale.
Additionally, all but four of those 33 women’s programs had rates of 90 percent or better.
On the men’s side, 16 Division I hockey programs achieved a perfect 100-percent GSR in the most recent data: AIC, Army West Point, Bowling Green, Brown, Canisius, Colgate, Cornell, Harvard, Holy Cross, Lake Superior State, LIU, UMass Lowell, Miami, Niagara, Omaha, and Yale.
A total of 33 men’s programs had rates of 90 percent or better.
Many hockey players continued to work toward graduation after moving on to the professional ranks. In recent years, current National Hockey Player players like Thatcher Demko (Boston College), Nic Dowd (St. Cloud State), Jack Johnson (Michigan), Ryan McDonagh (Wisconsin), Drew O’Connor (Dartmouth), and Jake Oettinger (Boston University) have completed their undergraduate degrees after having left school early to sign professional contracts.
