Women’s Notes: Syracuse Sweep
Syracuse Sweeps Lindenwood and AHA Weekly

The Syracuse Orange swept conference opponent Lindenwood this weekend for their fourth sweep of the season. The six-point weekend puts the Orange in third place in the AHA standings.
On Friday night, the Orange had three players with multi-point games, led by sophomore forward Jackson Kinsler (Madison, Wisconsin), who had a career night with two goals and two assists. Junior defenseman Sami Gendron (Rockland, Ontario) notched a goal and two assists, while freshmen forward Stella Costabile (Belmar, N.J.) recorded a goal and an assist. The penalty kill was perfect, shutting down all three power plays while allowing just three shots on goal.
On Saturday afternoon the sweep was completed with five different goal scorers, including freshmen forward Carly Sardine (Hagersville, Ontario), who netted her first collegiate goal. Kinsler, Gendron and Costabile, who all scored on Friday, found the net again Saturday and sophomore forward Nea Tervonen (Tampere, Finland) scored her fourth goal of the season.
Graduate goaltender Allie Kelley (East Berne, New York) recorded her third shutout of the season, stopping all 30 shots on goal, including a penalty shot in the third period.
The Orange also swept the AHA weekly honors. Kelley was named Goaltender of the Week after making 58 saves and earning a shutout. Costabile was named Rookie of the Week with two goals and two assists. Gendron earned Defenseman of the Week honors with two goals and three assists, while Kinsler was named Forward of the Week after tallying three goals and three assists.
Syracuse will face Robert Morris on the road this weekend.

National Women in Sports Day:
Today marks the 39th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Today – and every day – we stick tap all those involved in sports and the game we love, hockey.
Sports play a crucial role in women’s leadership, with 67% of women acknowledging that the skills and lessons learned from sports have carried into adulthood. Additionally, half of women attribute their leadership development to the abilities gained through sports (source: Women In Sports Foundation)
Special Teams:
Three teams have a power-play percentage above 30 this season, with the Wisconsin Badgers leading at 38.3 percent. The Badgers have scored 31 power-play goals on 81 opportunities. The Clarkson Golden Knights are close behind at 34.1 percent, while the Minnesota Gophers rank third at 30.2 percent.
Wisconsin also leads in penalty kill percentage at 92.1 percent, allowing just six goals on 76 power-play opportunities against. The Boston Terriers are less than a percentage point behind at 91.5 percent, having allowed seven goals on 82 opportunities.
Penn State leads the league in shorthanded goals with seven this season, followed by Minnesota and Minnesota Duluth with five each.
Getting Over the Hertl:
The Franklin Pierce Ravens swept the defending NEWHA champion Stonehill last weekend, winning both games in 3-2 barn burners. Ravens goaltender Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) anchored both victories, stopping 82 shots while posting a .953 save percentage on the weekend.
Franklin Pierce sits third in the NEWHA standings and will hit the road to face second-place LIU.
Big Blocks:
The Robert Morris Colonials have recorded 615 blocked shots this season, more than 120 more than the next closest team, Bemidji State. The Colonials also have the top two shot blockers in the country—graduate defenseman Allyson Hebert (St. Andrews West, Ontario) with 89 and freshman defenseman SShayne Desjardins (Newmarket, Ontario) with 78.
Merrimack’s Fast Start:
The Merrimack Warriors defeated No. 11 Boston College 5-3 on Saturday. The Warriors jumped out to an early three-goal lead in the first period, scoring in the first three minutes of the game. Freshmen forward Sage Babey (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) opened the scoring, and sophomore forward Maria Lindberg (Jonstorp, Sweden) made it 2-0 just three minutes later. Graduate defenseman Natalie Nemes (Kingston, Massachusetts) tallied the third goal of the first period. The Warriors had five different goal scorers enroute to the upset.
The Eagles fought back within one on two different occasions but couldn’t find the equalizer. Junior goalie Calli Hogarth (Barrie, Ontario) faced 15 shots in the final period, stopping 14. (Barrie, Ontario) faced 15 shots in the final period, stopping 14.

PWHL Note of the Week:
The PWHL is midway through its sophomore season, and the Montreal Victoire currently sits in first place, six points ahead of the Minnesota Frost. Rookie Sarah Fillier (Princeton, ’24) leads the league in points with 15 and Marie-Philip Poulin (Boston University, ’15) leads the league in goals with 10.
