Nearly 120 with NCAA Ties to Compete in IIHF World Championship

The past, present and future of NCAA Division I women’s hockey will be on display at the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship, which gets underway Wednesday in České Budějovice, Czechia.

A total of 119 players with NCAA ties are expected to compete in the tournament, including 40 student-athletes who are current NCAA players or committed for the 2025-26 season.

All 10 countries participating in the 2025 IIHF World Championship will have representation, led by the United States and Canada (25), Czechia (13), Finland (12), and Sweden and Switzerland (10). Both the American and Canadian rosters are made up entirely of current or former NCAA players.

Thirty-four different NCAA schools will be represented during the tournament. Wisconsin leads with 15 current, former or committed players, followed by Ohio State (13), Minnesota (12), St. Cloud State (nine) and Minnesota Duluth (eight), and Maine (eight) and Northeastern (seven). 

Twenty-four schools will boast multiple players on tournament rosters.

The 2025 IIHF World Championship takes place April 9-20 at Budvar Arena in České Budějovice, Czechia.
