When he takes the ice tonight in Boston, former Boston University All-American and National Champion Mike Grier, is set to play in his 1,000th regular season NHL game. He is the 254th player to do so in NHL history and only the third African American, joining former Montreal Canadian Donald Brashear and Calgary's Jerome Iginla.

Grier skated for three seasons at BU recording some great numbers. Individually, his best year was the 1994-95 season when he notched 29 goals and 26 assists for 55 points in 37 games. At BU, Grier played with NHLers Chris Drury and Jay Pandolfo while being coached by the great Jack Parker and USA Olympian Mike Eruzione.

Grier spent his first six years in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers. He then had some quality years with the Sabres, Capitals, and the Sharks. Now, he is back in a Buffalo Sabres uniform and suiting up for his 1,000 career game tonight. Over his 14 year NHL career, he has scored 350 points, earned over 500 penalty minutes and reached the playoffs 10 times. As he plays his 1000 game he shows no signs of slowing down and remains Buffalo's leader both on and off the ice.
