Through Oct. 10, 239 freshmen had made their college hockey debuts this season. That's a lot of players who had their first opportunity to pull on the jersey and skate in front of rabid student sections.

Last weekend at the Ice Breaker Tournament in Grand Forks, N.D., we caught up with a few to see how their first games - and their first months on campus - were going.

"So far it has probably exceeded my expectations, it's been unbelievable," North Dakota freshman defenseman Nick Mattson said. "From academic to social to the hockey side of things everything's been awesome. I'm loving my time here."

Twenty-seven freshmen have already experienced the thrill of their first college goal, while 72 have recorded at least a point.
