Eidsness Exercises His Option

A frequent theme at College Hockey, Inc. summits and presentations is the opportunity former college players have to pursue their dreams after hockey. With a degree in hand, players have a greater choice of when to step away from the game.

For North Dakota goaltender Brad Eidsness, the time is right to hang up the skates. Despite numerous pro opportunities, Eidsness told Brad Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald that he plans to enroll in law school at the University of Victoria.

"I definitely had opportunities to go play, but when U-Vic gave me an offer, that changed things," Eidsness said. "I started weighing a lot of things.

"I had really good memories of hockey the last four years. Wherever I would have gone, it wouldn't have been as good of an experience as the last four years. I wanted to go to law school eventually and I made the decision to do it a couple years earlier than I originally planned. The last four years would be tough to top. I decided it's time and I'm really excited to go to law school."

Eidsness is no ordinary player, even in college hockey. The native of Chestermere, Alberta, earned his undergraduate degree in three years and this year earned his master's in business administration.

While his story - and his choice - may be fairly exceptional, they represent the options that lie ahead for all players on the college route.
