Greg Powers has one of college hockey's most compelling coaching projects in front of him: building a program, from scratch, at a large, powerful university in an area removed from the rest of the college hockey footprint.
It's a process filled with apparent contradictions: a big school, but a newcomer to the sport; an inviting climate, but that's not the main attraction to prospective recruits; a successful non-varsity history, but a chance to "be the tradition."
Leading it all is Powers, a former goaltender for the Sun Devils and executive recruiter, who brings passion and intelligence to this new program. In this week's College Hockey Coaches Show, he breaks down how he plans to make ASU into a college hockey power.
