College Hockey Inc., has named Michigan State graduate and former Spartan forward Brent Darnell as the organization’s new Director of Education, Executive Director Mike Snee announced today. Darnell, a 24-year-old native of Canton, Mich., will lead College Hockey Inc.’s efforts to promote NCAA hockey to talented young players and their families.

In addition, former Dartmouth standout Jamie Herrington has joined College Hockey Inc. in a part-time role to expand the organization’s educational efforts.

“We are very excited to add two accomplished and enthusiastic former NCAA student-athletes in Brent Darnell and Jamie Herrington,” Snee said. “Brent’s role is really at the heart of everything we do, and his passion for the college hockey experience is infectious. The ability to add a new role for Jamie allows us to bring another talented representative on board and expand upon what our group is able to accomplish.”

Darnell graduated from Michigan State last May with a degree in Economics after earning Academic All-Big Ten honors three times. A two-year member of the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede prior to attending MSU, Darnell will begin his role with College Hockey Inc. on Monday and will be based out of the offices of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in Plymouth, Mich.

“I am very excited at the great opportunity I have to be a member of College Hockey Inc.,” Darnell said. “I look forward to educating families on the many benefits of college hockey. My four years as a student-athlete at Michigan State were the best years of my life and helped mold me into the person I am today.”

Darnell’s coach at Michigan State, Tom Anastos, was one of the driving forces behind the creation of College Hockey Inc. while he was commissioner of the CCHA.

“I have seen first-hand the entrepreneurial spirit that Brent will bring to College Hockey Inc. and his efforts should benefit college hockey as a whole,” Anastos said. “He’s an enthusiastic, well-spoken young man who has a passion for our sport and will convey the many benefits of playing NCAA hockey to College Hockey Inc.’s various audiences.”

Herrington, 38, was a two-year captain at Dartmouth who will support College Hockey Inc.’s efforts in his home state of Colorado and elsewhere in this newly created position. Herrington has been active in various roles in amateur hockey, and serves as a scout for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.

“I am very excited to join College Hockey Inc.,” Herrington said. “It is a great opportunity to extend the education of players and families on the merits of NCAA hockey.”
