200+ Alums Start Season in NHL
Fourteen first-year pros made the jump straight from college hockey to the NHL
More than 200 former NCAA players earned spots on opening-night NHL rosters, including 14 who played college hockey last season.
Forty-two schools have a player on an NHL roster, led by Boston College, Michigan and Wisconsin (17 players each, including those on injured reserve).
The 14 first-year pros on active rosters are a sharp increase from last year, when eight players made the leap directly from college. A year ago that group included standout rookies Jack Eichel, Dylan Larkin and Colton Parayko.
