Michigan, UMD to Meet for Title
Michigan and Minnesota Duluth won Thursday’s semifinals and will meet Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., to decide the 2011 NCAA championship. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN (tape delay on LeafsTV at approximately 10 p.m. in Canada).
Michigan upset top-seeded North Dakota, 2-0, Thursday night to advance behind 40 saves from goaltender Shawn Hunwick (pictured, photo by Larry Radloff, Inside College Hockey). The Wolverines will be seeking their NCAA-leading 10th championship and first since 1998.
Minnesota Duluth beat Notre Dame, 4-3, and has a shot at the first national championship in school history. The Bulldogs are making their second appearance in the title game.
Gary Thorne, Barry Melrose and Clay Matvick will call the game for ESPN.
