Hobey Names Top 10 Finalists
Michigan's first line, returning finalist Vesey among contenders for college hockey's top individual honor.

The 10 finalists for the 2016 Hobey Baker Award include each member of Michigan's first line, two goaltenders and returning Hobey Hat Trick finalist Jimmy Vesey (N. Reading, Mass./South Shore-EJHL/NSH) of Harvard.

The finalists are determined by voting from the 60 Division I head coaches and online fan balloting. They are:

  • Kyle Connor, Michigan, Fr., F (Shelby Twp./Youngstown-USHL/WPG)
  • Thatcher Demko, Boston College, Jr., G (San Diego, Calif./U.S. NTDP/VAN)
  • Zac Lynch, Robert Morris, Sr., F (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bay State-EJHL)
  • Alex Lyon, Yale, Jr., G (Baudette, Minn./Omaha-USHL)
  • Tyler Motte, Michigan, Jr., F (St. Clair, Mich./U.S. NTDP/CHI)
  • Alex Petan, Michigan Tech, Sr., F (Delta, B.C./Coquitlam-BCHL)
  • Andrew Poturalski, New Hampshire, So., F (Williamsville, N.Y./Cedar Rapids-USHL)
  • Ethan Prow, St. Cloud State, Sr., D (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Des Moines-USHL)
  • Jimmy Vesey, Harvard, Sr., F (N. Reading, Mass./South Shore-EJHL/NSH)

The finalists include representatives of eight schools, eight states and all six conferences. Five of the finalists are NHL draft picks, plus UNH's Poturalski, who signed with the Carolina Hurricanes following his season.

The Hobey Hat Trick (three finalists) will be announced on March 31 and the Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced Friday, April 8, 2016 from Tampa, FL during the NCAA Frozen Four. The award announcement will take place at the historic Tampa Theatre, built in 1926 as one of America’s most elaborate movie palaces.
