2021 Conference Tournaments


The six Division I conferences each hold a postseason tournament to determine which team earns their automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.


Atlantic Hockey

Format: All 11 teams will make the 2021 Atlantic Hockey Tournament, which will be held on campus sites over three weekends from March 6-20. Teams will be seeded in East and West groups for the first two weekends, with single-elimination games in the first round held March 6 or 7. The quarterfinals will be best-of-three series March 12-14. The semifinals (March 19) and championship (March 20) will be single games.

Big Ten

Format: The 2021 Big Ten Tournament will be held March 14-16 at Notre Dame’s Compton Family Ice Arena and will feature all seven conference teams. The first-place team will receive a first-round bye. Three first-round games will be held March 14, with two semifinals on March 15 and the championship game on Tuesday, March 16.

ECAC Hockey

Format: The four participating teams will all make the 2021 ECAC Hockey Tournament. Semifinals will be held at the higher-seeded home rinks on Thursday, March 18. The higher remaining seed will host the championship game on Saturday, March 20.

Hockey East

Format: All 11 teams will make the 2021 Hockey East Tournament, with each round being single elimination and all held on campus sites. Seeds 6-11 will play three opening-round games on Wednesday, March 10. Teams will be reseeded for the quarterfinal games, which will take place Sunday, March 14. The semifinals are set for Wednesday, March 17, with the championship game on Saturday, March 20.

National Collegiate Hockey Conference

Format: All eight teams make the 2021 NCHC Tournament, which will be a single-elimination format held at North Dakota’s Ralph Engelstad Arena March 12-16. Quarterfinals will occur on Friday and Saturday, March 12-13, while the semifinals and championship will take place on Monday, March 15 and Tuesday, March 16, respectively.

WCHA

Format: Eight teams will make the 2021 WCHA Tournament, which will begin with four best-of-three quarterfinal series March 12-14, hosted on the campus of the higher seeds. The four remaining teams will advance to the single-game semifinals and championship game, held March 19-20 on the campus of the highest remaining seed.
